Elevation Program Recipient Sarah Taylor Premieres Invisible Imagination
Edmonton-based editor Sarah Taylor turns the camera on her own aphantasia in Invisible Imagination, supported by Edmonton Screen's Elevation Program and premiering at the Calgary International Film Festival on September 29, 2026.
Sarah Taylor, an Edmonton-based film editor, is a recipient of the Elevation Program for her debut feature documentary, Invisible Imagination, produced under Invisible Imagination Inc.
About the film:
Sarah Taylor grapples with a reality that sets her apart from most people: she has no ability to visualize. She has aphantasia, or "mind's eye blindness," a condition that makes it impossible to conjure images or visual memories in her mind. As an award winning film editor, Sarah has built a career inside an overwhelmingly visual medium. To understand how, she teamed up with Anna Cooley, a hyper visualizer fascinated by how brains work, and the two set out to tell the story of Sarah's non-visual brain visually.
Through interviews with other people with aphantasia and researchers working in the field, the film looks at how aphants learn, grieve, create, and remember. It is not only about aphantasia. It is a look at the range of human creativity, however it takes shape.
Invisible Imagination has its world premiere at the Calgary International Film Festival on September 29 at 6:45pm. An Edmonton screening follows on November 14 at 4:00PM at the Broad View Film Festival. A 44 minute version will air on CBC and stream on CBC Gem in early 2027. Watch the trailer here.

Sarah Taylor, CCE is a multi-award winning editor with more than twenty years of experience across documentaries, television, shorts, and feature films. She owns Suite One Productions Inc., her Edmonton-based production company. Invisible Imagination is her debut feature documentary.
