Greenlight Alberta Selects Two Short Films for Production Funding

Greenlight Alberta's short film production stream has selected its first two projects: The Tuesday Test from Baron Camera Ltd. and Room 309 from Brimstone Pictures Corporation.

The call for proposals opened in June, inviting independent filmmakers in Northern Alberta to submit short films ready to go into production. An external panel of industry peers reviewed the submissions, and both projects ranked among the top-rated overall.

Each film receives up to $50,000 in production funding. In return, the sets double as training grounds, with Greenlight Alberta's certified crew getting hands-on, paid experience in Assistant Director, Production Coordinator, and Production Assistant roles, mentored by each production's department heads.

About The Tuesday Test

Convinced that their work days may be repeating, two co-workers devise a test to determine whether each day is truly different from the last.

The film is directed and shot by David Baron, written by Galen Pendleton, and produced by Amy McBain, Justin Brunelle, and David Baron, with McBain also serving as Production Manager. The crew includes Tony Kinash as 1st AD, Alexandra Paulhus as Locations Manager, Thaimu Turray as Key Grip, and Kyrsten Lofts as Production Designer.

About Room 309

A business traveller arrives at the elegant Hotel Selkirk in the early 1930s for what should be a routine overnight stay. At check-in, the charming receptionist tries to give him Room 309, but the uneasy manager intervenes insisting that the room is never rented. That night, the traveller hears soft crying coming from behind the forbidden door. When he finally looks through the old-fashioned keyhole, he sees a pale young woman in a nightgown, standing in the dark by a rain-streaked window, staring down at a bed. The hotel gives him no answers. Only a warning. The more he ignores it, the closer he comes to a truth that was meant to stay locked away. By morning, he realizes the room didn't just remember her… It's remembering him.

The film is directed and written by Neil Chase and produced by Preston Ewasiuk, with Elizabeth Lavender as Co-Producer and Casting, David Heacock as Cinematographer, and Hugh Flesher as Production Designer.

What's Next

Both productions head into pre-production this August, with principal photography running September through October and post-production in November. Final films are due by the end of December 2026.
