Edmonton Named a Top 25 Place for MovieMakers in North America

Edmonton has been named one of MovieMaker Magazine’s Top 25 Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker in North America, highlighting the city’s growing film and TV production sector and the momentum of local creators, studios and crews.

Edmonton has been named one of MovieMaker Magazine’s Top 25 Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker in North America. The recognition highlights the strength, talent and momentum across the region’s creative economy and reflects the work being done to support filmmakers, studios and crew at every stage.

Over the past year, Edmonton Screen has focused on the areas that matter most for sustainable growth: building local capacity, supporting early-stage development and ensuring creators have access to the tools and pathways they need to scale their work. That foundation is now translating into visible results across the sector and helping Edmonton show up more prominently on national and international stages.

We’re seeing the impact of this investment across Edmonton’s film community. Among the many projects gaining traction, several Elevation Program recipients are advancing notable work with growing national attention, including Dylan Pearce with Legend of Conquest, Cody Lightning with Smudge the Blades, Adam Scorgie with The Great Ones, and Kyle Edward Ball with Land of Nod. These are just a few examples of the talent and progress emerging from local creators.

Edmonton’s ranking also reinforces a wider provincial narrative. With both Edmonton and Calgary recognized in the Top 25, Alberta is increasingly viewed as a strong, reliable and collaborative place for screen production. Skilled crews, competitive incentives and coordinated municipal and provincial support are helping producers see the opportunities available here, and Edmonton’s placement shows how that momentum is expanding.

“The talent in this city is strong. We’re grateful for this community, proud of the work being made, and happy to support the momentum behind it. I’m excited to see what creators build in 2026,” says Dorian Rowe, Film Commissioner at Edmonton Screen.

As this progress continues, Edmonton Screen along with the City of Edmonton will continue supporting local creators, showcasing regional strengths and working closely with civic, municipal and provincial partners to ensure Alberta remains competitive on the national and international stage.
